The Angel Canal Festival once again transformed Islington’s waterways into a celebration of colour, craft, and community. This much-loved annual event has been running since 1986, and it continues to capture the charm of London’s canal life. Among the highlights of the 2025 festival was The Tarporley, the historic narrowboat operated by the Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association (CCNA), which champions mental wellbeing through its community and charity canal trips.

Moored along the towpath between the Narrowboat Pub and Danbury Street, The Tarporley welcomed festival visitors aboard to explore what a trip on the water might feel like. Volunteers from the CCNA shared their stories of using the boat to provide peaceful escapes for those who need them most. Through quiet cruises and charity partnerships, the association helps people reconnect with nature and community; showing that a canal boat for hire can be far more than a leisure experience; it can be a lifeline.

Throughout the day, visitors learned about the opportunities to hire The Tarporley for group outings, local charity events, and wellbeing initiatives. Its presence at the Angel Canal Festival embodied what London’s canals do best - bringing people together, encouraging slower living, and creating moments of calm in the city. The boat’s beautifully maintained design and warm welcome made it a fitting ambassador for the waterways.

Around the festival, the atmosphere was buzzing. Families explored stalls filled with handmade crafts, local art, and delicious street food. Performers such as London Pride Morris and Punch and Judy added to the lively spirit, while nearby boat trips run by the Islington Boat Club and the Angel Community Canalboat Trust gave visitors a chance to experience canal travel first-hand.
