On Saturday 14th February, the Tarporley welcomed guests aboard for three Valentine’s sailings. We ran trips at 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00. Together, they brought 26 guests onto the Regent’s Canal for a calm, practical alternative to the usual plans.
Guests consistently enjoyed the slower pace of travel. It gave people time to take in the canal, spot passing boats, and ask questions. They also loved seeing the lock in action on the way into the basin. It’s hands-on, and it always sparks conversation.

In addition, our crew shared simple facts about London’s canal system. That detail helped first-time visitors understand what they were seeing. It also made the route feel purposeful, not just scenic.
The later sailing added an extra dimension. After sunset, guests experienced the tunnel in both light and dark. As a result, the journey felt like it changed halfway through, without any extra effort from guests.
We also met several people cruising for the first time. A few guests joined us while travelling, on their first visit to the UK. That mix created a friendly mood onboard, and people naturally chatted as the boat moved along.

However, you don’t need a private group to join us. We also run ticketed themed trips in the summer. In addition, you can catch trips linked to visits at the Canal Museum on Wednesdays.
